J & D Memories is a wedding and events photography company founded in 2005 by John Berninger and David McDowell and based in Raleigh, North Carolina. We specialize in wedding photography, but are available for any event or portrait photography need you have.

We use both Nikon and Canon equipment - John uses a Nikon N80 and N65, both film cameras, and a Nikon D70 (a digital camera), while David uses a Canon Digital Rebel. This allows us to give our customers the rapid initial turnaround of digital and the more traditional look of a film image at the same time. We recommend film for Bridal portraits; the customer can choose either all-film, all-digital, or a combination of film and digital for the ceremony and reception.

We can customize any of our packages, or work with you to build your own package customized to capture your wedding the way you want. We offer both traditional and newer photojournalism style coverage for your event, and since we both work all of the weddings we shoot you get two different viewpoints of the entire event at no extra charge.

If the package you select or customize comes with a print album, we work with you to determine which type of album you think would best hold your memories and will use that type of album. All of your images will be initially captured in color, but we can offer digital retouching services to produce black and white images as well as intensification, posterization, color separation, and other effects. Basic image cleanup is included with the package price, additional fees for additional digital services are negotiated prior to signing the contract.

Perhaps most importantly, we subscribe to the WYSIWYG philosophy - when you hire us to record your wedding, you will be talking to the photographers who will be the ones actually at your wedding. When that special day comes, the photographers that show up will be the same two that you have been talking to all along, not a total stranger.
